Recycling Codes

Plastic products have triangular recycling codes, with numbers 1-7 representing different plastic types:

  1. PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate): Mineral water bottles, beverage bottles. Single use, not heat resistant.

  2. HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene): Milk jugs, detergent bottles. Relatively safe but not microwave safe.

  3. PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride): Food packaging, plastic wrap. May release harmful substances, avoid food contact.

  4. LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene): Plastic bags, food wrap. Generally safe but not heat resistant.

  5. PP (Polypropylene): Yogurt containers, microwave containers. Heat resistant, relatively safe.

  6. PS (Polystyrene): Foam takeout containers, disposable cups. May release styrene when heated.

  7. Other: Mixed plastics or other types. Safety varies by specific material.
